6.2 Extension turn skidded
Until now, we have always had a relatively rigid position when snowboarding. Now the aim is to learn a new way of turning with the help of dynamic use of the knees in order to be able to ride more actively. These are also called "up unweighted turns".
Up unweighted turns for steep terrain
Particularly on steeper terrain, you sometimes have the feeling that you are totally at the mercy of your snowboard when making a skidded turn. Initiating the turn is then usually only possible with a jerky movement. We can simplify changing the edge in steeper terrain by dynamically releasing the pressure with a stretching movement.
If we ride rather low in the traverse and stretch out before the turn, we can reduce the load on the snowboard, which makes changing the edge easier. Another advantage is that dynamic flexing during the turn allows us to brake very precisely, which can give us great confidence.
Thought support when riding
In terms of the overall feeling, you can imagine changing the edge in a high position as if you were on a swing. By stretching out, we reduce the load on the snowboard and are as light as a feather when edging over. As with a jump, we flex our knees during the turn to absorb the energy.
Another way for unweighted turns.
