4.1.2 Speedcheck
Speedchecks are used to adjust the speed during the ride and then continue straight away. This can also be used to create gigantic snow sprays.
Speed check over frontside (toeside) edge
Ride down the hill in the fullbase position in the fall line. Now take a slight turn with your hand. Instead of turning as you would in a turn, do an explosive counter-rotation and push the frontside edge into the snow. As you do this, look down the slope. It sounds confusing, but it's actually quite easy.
The movements can be triggered impulsively. As soon as you edge up with the frontside edge in the fall line, keep your body tension until you want to release the speed check again.
To end the speed check, turn the snowboard back into the fall line by releasing the twisting of the upper and lower body.
Speed check via backside (heelside) edge
Basically, the speed check over the backside edge works in the same way as over the frontside edge. The speed check over the backside edge is more suitable for adjusting the speed slightly.
Making a spray with a speed check
You can get a good spray with a speed check over the frontside edge, as you can press it harder into the snow. A speed check also works well without a lunge or if you lunge in the "wrong" direction. However, you then have to balance the energy with a counter movement.
Can you already do snow sprays?
Perfect! If you want to practise more tricks, try jumping with an 8.0.1 Ollie or perfect your board control with the 4.1.1 Waltz
