8.0 Tailpress
You may have already learned how to do a wheelie by slowly bringing your weight over the tail or nose. In this section, we'll look at how to jump into a tailpress in a more controlled way.
Getting into the tailpress position
It is much easier to jump into a tailpress while riding. Here we do not lean slowly over the tail but jump directly into the pressing position. To practise this, it is worth shifting your hips while standing, which will help you to get into the right position straight away
Perform the tailpress while riding
Instead of shifting your weight to the tail, try to jump directly into the tailpress position and hold the position by pressing with your back leg. This is a little more difficult, but much more controlled than slowly bringing the weight over the tail.
What does the tailpress have to do with pressing?
If we shift our weight towards the tail for a tailpress, we can push through the back leg at a certain point instead of leaning further over the tail. This allows us to vary the height of the tail press. It also allows us to push the snowboard through more and this tension can then be used for an ollie.
